Bulgarian Logbook, Day 4 – Filming

The Bulgarian group spent most part of the day interviewing our subject for the documentary, Miro, who is a Bulgarian actor, living on a boat in London. Engaging us in a conversation over hot chocolate in the Walhamstow Wetlands he elaborated on the promises of the Bulgarian Experience of London.

A budding actor, he played for us from a Recec, a forerunner of the violin, and a traditional Bulgarian instrument his forefathers were masters of. His act is accompanied by a stuffed toy panda perched on his left shoulder which dances with his playing. His play is a story about endangered species, of both life and music. He came to London to pursue his dream of becoming an actor, because the spectacle of theatre has blossomed into full bloom in the diverse multicultural city. He mentions, profoundly, that to him his experiences of cultural diversity is simple, he treats a man like a man rather than a caricature of his birth nation, respecting at every turn the individuality of our circumstances.

Afterwards we spent time learning about Bulgarian culture in London and it’s adaptation to the London climate. The lesson merged well with our interview where we came to realize that the experience of Bulgarians varies from individual to individual, from migrating to follow a dream to settling to protect one’s children every individual has a wholly original story.
