Turkish Logbook Day 2: Adınız ne?

Merhaba!

Our second day started off with the second skills session, which focused on documentary film-making and how film can be used as a tool to document and communicate research. This session was quite valuable to us in terms of providing useful tips about the practical aspects of creating a film as well as ideas about how to create an interesting and original narrative.

The film-making session was followed by a very interesting presentation/workshop on visual art and collage making. During this session, our group got together to create a collage inspired by Roma literature and in particular by the poem “Gypsy Soul”. Working together towards creating a creative work of art was a really nice experience, and the final result, which was finished by three group members later that same afternoon, was a nice representation of both our understanding of the Roma poem as well as a reflection of good team work.

Following our lunch break, we attended our second Turkish language session with our lovely teacher, Cavidan. The one hour lesson was centred around the main grammatical features of the Turkish language, among other things how to introduce ourselves (i.e. ben John) and how to ask what someone’s name is (adınız ne?) and so on – all very useful terms that we can definitely use for basic conversations in Turkey or (hopefully) with people of Turkish background in London as part of our current filming and portrait projects!

The rest of the afternoon was spent researching for the film and finishing our collage – all in all a very productive second day!

Hoşçakal!
